How Is DHTML and AJAX Used On Large-Scale Global Sites?

AJAXWorld 2006 Session By One of the First Web Developers at Yahoo!

How is DHTML and Ajax used, in practice, under the pressures of massive scale and global distribution? That question will be answered at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2006 by one of the first Web developers at Yahoo!, Nate Koechley (pictured), who is giving a session called 'Y! vs Y! vs Y!: Across the Document-Application Spectrum, One Size Does Not Fit All.'

This session will offer case studies of three state-of-the-art Yahoo! products that compare and contrast JavaScript, CSS, DHTML and Ajax implementation and approach details. These products, Koechley will show, share base infrastructure and goals, but unique requirements and influences lead to different decisions and compromises, and vastly different outcomes. Even with the differences, there are several patterns that are repeated depending on a product’s location of the Documents-Applications Spectrum.

Nate Koechley has been instrumental in creating and defining the practice of Web development and front-end engineering. Through evolving roles as developer, manager, and evangelist on both the development and user experience and design sides of the company, Nate has championed modern standards-based Web development, a commitment to accessibility, code and pattern library creation, and open source and blogging initiatives. Through it all, Nate focuses on the intersection and coordination of design and development, helping teams understand “why” in addition to “how”.
