mail.com Launches AJAX Webmail & Gigastore File Cabinet

Webmail with a Desktop Experience & Online Storage

mail.com, announced its next-generation AJAX-based webmail service, which replicates the features of desktop email clients but requires only a web browser. The new AJAX-based email is available now to premium users of mail.com, and will become available as an option to all users in the near future.

In addition to a fresh new look, the highly intuitive mail.com AJAX interface offers the latest functionalities, including drag-and-drop, preview pane, auto-complete, message preloading, optimized page refreshes, easy folder manipulation, and visually simple navigation. All that is required to access the AJAX interface is a modern web browser such as Firefox (version 1.5 or better) or Internet Explorer (version 6 Service Pack 2 or better).

AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML) is a development technique for building web applications that mimic the interface and features usually found only in installed software. Because they deliver sophisticated user interaction directly from a server rather than via an installed desktop client, AJAX applications can replicate the traditional software experience without installation, upgrades, or cross-platform compatibility issues.

mail.com also launched the Gigastore File Cabinet for premium users, a new service that allows users to upload and store large files to their mail.com accounts for later retrieval. The Gigastore File Cabinet comes with a storage capacity of one gigabyte. A standard version of the File Cabinet will be deployed to all mail.com users soon.
