Senza Limiti Releases Open Source AJAX-Based PHP Grid

Version 2.0 Significantly Improves Performance on Large Tables, Adds a Host of New Features

Two months after the acquisition of PHPScript.se's PHP Data Gridi, Senza Limiti has released the first major update. Version 2.0 significantly improves performance on large tables and adds a host of new features to make handling and display of complex grids easier.

The most important changes are as follows:
- Increased performance for large tables (from 4 seconds on each AJAX call for a 10,000 row table to 0,2 seconds).
- The grid is now able to fall back to GET parameters if JavaScript is disabled (VIEW mode only). This allows use in AJAX applications with graceful degradation for older browser.
- Support for joins of multiple tables.
- The Excel export is now much faster and more compatible.

Senza Limiti introduced a flexible plugin system for changing the content of table cells before displaying them or before inserting them back into the database. This allows for the display of "image" fields, or for making it easier for the user to edit complex data. A demo at the slGrid website shows also how to use the plugin architecture for inline editing of table cells.

A complete list of changes can be found at the slGrid website at
http://www.senzalimiti.sk/slgrid/

slGrid remains Open Source, released under the GPL; for use and redistribution in closed-source applications, commercial licenses are available, starting at $99 per license.

Hmm, never mind, there seems to be a mistake in the article, if you use the GPL version then your product must also be under the GPL, sorry for the previous outburst. :)

Wait a minute, did this article just say that Senza was released under the GPL but that you can only use it in closed-source apps?

Okay, that's completely the opposite of what the GPL says.

According to it, you must[sic] give your users the same exact rights you have with the product. Obviously these Senza guys never read the license, or even bothered to read a summary. This is a pure outrage, not to mention illegal.

If I'm wrong, please say so, otherwise, what the heck?
