SSLBridge: AJAX Samba Client Released

SSLBridge Utilizes AJAX to Increase the Application's Interactivity, Speed, and Usability

Jim Kern has created SSLBridge, an AJAX enabled Samba Web GUI, and has released it using the GPL open source license. The web GUI that provides users access to corporate documents without any specialized hardware or software clients.

With SSLBridge users can remotely access their servers and Network Neighborhood using just a browser. It is a browser-based application, which means users do not have to install any client software on their computer to access their corporate files and servers. In conjunction with an SSL 128 bit encrypted connection users can have secure access to their resources. SSLBridge uses Samba to authenticate with an Active Directory Server, so users do not have to remember a new username and password, all access privileges remain the same in SSLBridge as they do when in the office.

SSLBridge is written using PHP and DHTML. SSLBridge utilizes Asynchronous JavaScript And XML (AJAX) to increase the application's interactivity, speed, and usability. This helps make SSLBridge nearly as responsive as software that resides on a user's computer. The technique helps speed up computer operations by cutting down on the need to request fresh Web pages from the server. SSLBridge can request smaller chunks of data to update the page that is already on the browser using DHTML.

SSLBridge features:

Authenticates using an existing user name and password against MS Active Directory using Samba.
All permissions that apply at office are also applied through SSLBridge.
Can download files from computers, just like when at office.
Can Drag and Drop files between computers.
Can select one of more files using both SHIFT-Click and CTRL-Click
