Scalix Announces Commercial Availability of AJAX-Based, Enterprise-Class Collaboration Platform

Scalix 11 Features New Web Services Platform, Mobile Web Client and Enhanced Outlook Support

(SYS-CON Media) - Scalix Corporation announced the commercial availability of Scalix 11, its Linux-based email, calendaring and messaging platform. Previously available as a preview version, Scalix 11 is a field-tested, easy-to-administer system enabling deep integration with legacy environments. It includes a Web services platform and mobile web client, enhanced management capabilities and ongoing improvements to Scalix’s award-winning web client and Outlook support.

“The commercial release of Scalix 11 has been highly anticipated by the Scalix community, who has already downloaded the preview version in record numbers,” said Glenn Winokur, Scalix’s chief executive officer. “The intense interest in Scalix proves the need for an alternative to Microsoft Exchange that integrates with current mission-critical applications like CRM and ERP, provides the familiar Outlook desktop and yet also brings an industry-leading AJAX client for both users and administrators. Scalix 11 offers all of these things and more, and we’re pleased to make it commercially available today.”

New features in Scalix 11 include the following:

Scalix Web Services Platform: Scalix Messaging Services are server-based REST APIs for cross-application integration, allowing companies to integrate their email and calendaring with critical applications like content management, mobile solutions, CRM and ERP. Scalix Management Services are SOAP-based APIs enabling management, administration and provisioning from the Scalix Administration Console.

Richest Web Client: Scalix Web Access (SWA) is an award-winning AJAX-based client that has the usability and performance to replace existing desktop clients altogether. Scalix 11 improves SWA with server-side search, full folder sharing, delegation, out-of-office assistant, address auto-completion, mouseover and right click functionality, and faster performance.

Scalix Mobile Web Client: Supplementing Scalix’s existing wireless capabilities, Scalix Mobile Web Client is a lightweight Web interface that enables basic mailbox access from cell phones, PDAs and hotel set-top boxes.

Best Outlook Support: Scalix already offers the industry’s most transparent Outlook support on Linux. Scalix’s Outlook support has been enhanced further with Scalix 11, with SmartCache, indexed search and improved mobile performance.

Management and Administration: Scalix 11 features Recovery Folder, a capability for rapid recovery of deleted items, and Scalix Migration Tool, which lets customers easily migrate data from Exchange 5.5, Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 and other legacy systems.

Internationalization and Localization: With Scalix’s expanding deployments around the world, Scalix 11 enhances localization with full multi-byte language support and an open-source localization kit for support of all left-to-right languages
