AJAXWorld 2007 East: Designing Software With A Cinematic Flair, the Laszlo Way

Bret Simister, Laszlo Systems Co-founder and Chief Interface Architect, To Reveal All at AJAXWorld

When UI maestro Bret Simister (pictured) takes the speaker's podium at AJAXWorld Conference & Expo on March 20, as part of the special Laszlo Track being held that day, he will explain in detail what Laszlo Systems describes as "The Cinematic User Experience" in terms of the Developer/Designer collaboration that undergirds designing software with a cinematic flair.

As chief interface architect of Laszlo Systems, Simister leads the design of Laszlo's advanced user interface framework. Since, prior to Laszlo, Bret was the interface architect for Excite@Home's interactive TV service, He has extensive experience in designing and implementing groundbreaking user interfaces for personal computers and interactive television.

Before that, he was a UI designer and project manager for Tele-TV, an interactive TV company, and a software engineer for Apple Computer working on a variety of projects, including video conferencing systems and corporate front-end systems. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Mathematics, and a B.S. in Physics from the University of California, Davis.

"A new paradigm of software development has emerged," Simister notes. "Creating user experiences that transform fluidly between application states, make use of animation to assist and educate in the function of an application, as well as to create a brand identity beyond those functional aspects, is what Laszlo calls the Cinematic User Experience," he continues.

"As this new paradigm of software development evolves," Simister adds, "so do the team dynamics of how designers and developers work in collaboration."

His Laszlo Track presentation will explore some of the core principles behind Cinematic User Experiences, the benefits gained, and the current approaches in team dynamics for designing software with a cinematic flair.
