Telerik Unveils ASP.NET AJAX

The 'Prometheus' components are built entirely on top of ASP.NET AJAX, utilizing its common programming model

Telerik, the leading vendor of UI components for .NET, is excited to unveil a landmark Q1 2007 release, which outlines the next steps in the company’s strategic direction. Q1 2007 is the biggest release for Telerik to date, including RadControls for ASP.NET, RadControls for WinForms, the first official version of Telerik Reporting, as well as a brand new suite code-named RadControls “Prometheus” for ASP.NET.

Aiming for constant innovation and alignment with the product vision of Microsoft, Telerik officially presented RadControls “Prometheus” – the successor of RadControls for ASP.NET. The “Prometheus” components are built entirely on top of ASP.NET AJAX, utilizing its common programming model and opens brand new horizons for building richer web-applications, leveraging completely the power and flexibility of the novel Microsoft web framework.

The first version of this new suite is available with a Beta Go-live license and will be launched commercially in 2008, after Visual Studio Orcas is released and after Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX becomes an integral part of the ASP.NET framework.

“Gradually orienting our ASP.NET product line towards ASP.NET AJAX is indeed a major step for us”, says Ivo Nedkov, Unit Manager, Telerik. “This of course won’t happen overnight as few customers can truly benefit today. We just want to make sure that once ASP.NET AJAX gains adoption and developers start looking for next-generation components, we will be ready to offer them, after a long period of Beta testing and feedback collection.”

One of the focal points of the Q1 release is the expansion of the RadControls suite for WinForms, the first Vista-style UI suite for desktop development. After months of intensive development, Telerik is excited to unveil the addition of three major controls to the UI suite – RadGridView, RadTreeView, and RadChart. Unified by the Telerik Presentation Framework, the new products will deliver unprecedented performance, and extensibility, combined with unique Vista-style UI features like Flash-like animations, scaling, rotation, transparencies and alpha blending etc.

“The new releases are a big step towards the solidifying of our position in the WinForms UI component market” says Hristo Kosev, Telerik CTO. ”While we are mostly known for our innovations in the ASP.NET world, I am sure that customers will see all of the unique capabilities that we are bringing to the WinForms world and will appreciate our effort to make a UI suite that is both high-performing and visually impressive”

The spring release brings a significant addition to the Telerik portfolio of developer tools with the first release of Telerik Reporting. The new report generation engine offers a very convenient object model and solid Visual Studio 2005 integration to allow customers to easily generate Win, Web and PDF reports, with more formats on their way. Referred to as “Easibility”, the development experience offers drag and drop databinding, ability to plug in custom renderers, a Visual Studio-identical datasource wizard, fine-grained CSS-like styling mechanism, rich set of measurement units and a wealth of other features that can accelerate the creation and styling of company reports.
